No. I mean...NO The World she is a'changin' The Red Army and Alabama is just...WRONG.  - and as long as she is a'changin' thisaway, I cann't get enough of it. It gives me the same kind of goosebumps as did the fall of the Wall ..... - and I talked to a Russian today here on WCG  - would I ever had imagined it, Iron Curtain and all?  - and this one I had to find outta town [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at May 20, 2011 1:15:36 AM] |

(I agree: It's kind of improbable: Red Army and Alabama) What I'm excited about is all that has happened between east and west - so that Alabama and the Red Army is no longer that improbable but just one wonderful consequense of the change and something to get excited about - and 25 years ago - ignoring other technicalities - it would not have been possible for me to meet a Russian here .............. Isn't that amazing? <I'm probably talking nonsense here. Too tired to sleep and too tired to think straight, and completely unable to express myself. Sorry, Elaine. You know we had an Iron Curtain?
When we went to Germany when I was young, we went out East where the road stopped to look at the border in the countryside. They looked back with their binoculars. The Bundesgrenzschutzpolizei (West German Border Police) came and told us better go back not to provoke the DDR soldiers. It was eerily attractive because it was impossible to grasp that we should have this belt of destruction running up and down Europe's body. Ronald Reagan challenged Mihail Gorbatjev to tear it down. Far back you would not have seen The Leningrad Cowboys and the Red Army Choir perform together. Now they do. And a Russian can come here ... - well, does this make sense? |

heh heh, well it's not news to me, Anne-Lise, cuz we are the country that let's everyone in, as you know....
I've been meaning to tell you that: on my arm (and on my Mother's arm before mine) I wear, daily, a beautiful Georg Jensen bracelet that HE made! It's very heavy and has 12 Green agates. It is so ME that my own children wouldn't know me without it. |
