Re: "The survivors"

You do not need a more powerful computer.
It took me years to get where you are.
I am mocking the few that like to flaunt their accomplishments.
Which, by the way is not you.

I just got an email from The White House.
Darned spammers.

Grumpy,

I hope you also ordered another 200 amp feed for your house from the power company.

“Doing nothing is very hard to do - you never know when you're finished."
But with WCG the less you do, the more you do.
The less you use your PC the more idle CPU time, which results in more research being accomplished.
Therefore, more nothing equals more something.
Clear enough?

Re: "The survivors"

If you change your additional work buffer to avoid interruptions due to the three planned outages,
don't set the number of days to more than 3.
Mine is set for 1.0-2.0 days based on the CPU.
Although the preferences allows up to 10 additional work days,
my experience is that BOINC does a poor job of managing due dates at that setting,
and it will eventually send some work units in late.
Late work units can impact another user for whom you are the wing man.
Is there anyone that does not know why we have wing men?

My Abacus is held together with 'wing nuts'. Does that count?

Re: "The survivors"

If I understand it correctly this is how it works, otherwise you may have to explain it to me:
Quorum - projects use a redundancy scheme to ensure that tasks are reliable;
quorum is the number of tasks needed in order to validate WUs.
Until this number is reached, credit is pending; it is granted after validation on the server side.
All WUs are given to one or two other members to crunch (wingmen).
When your WU returns for validation you must wait for other members to return their WU to reach the quorum.
If there is a quorum and the other member's results match yours they validate.
By the same logic you are someone's wingman.
The WUs go out at the same time with the same due date.
But, for various reasons your wingman may not return the result until a few days after you.
That is why there is a delay in validation of some WUs.

Tornado sirens have gone off four times tonight.
This could go on all night.
Typical spring weather.

Re: "The survivors"

Grumpy,

Are they left wing nuts or right wing nuts? It matters.

RCC,
Watching channel 2 last night it looked like the bad stuff passed to the south of you. I closed everything down at about 10 PM last night as the lights were flickering, but none of the bad stuff came near us. So I started to think that maybe Grumpy got his new "Super PC" and was trying to boot it up.

Re: "The survivors"

Burno,
We had two near misses, one went just south of us and the other went just north of us.
FYI 1 just = about 10-15 miles
Sitting in your basement listening to weather reports is a spring ritual here.
