Re: "The survivors"

Well, here i am in my man cave, staring out the window at the little white flakes falling from the sky.

These are either:
a- ash from a nearby volcano, or
b- snow from Georgiania.

Since it's cold out, i'm thinking it's time for some hot chocolate. ( I can't get near the fireplace 'cause the dog is hoggin' it.)

Did ya notice the Green CEP2 badge?

Re: "The survivors"

Congratulations to both on your badges, grumpy with 12 and Burno with 10.
Your run time is getting up there too.
Might be time to get Snurk signatures.

You can't get to Disney World from here.
Atlanta was not forecast to have a snow event so many were unprepared for it.
The city had 3-6+ hour commutes and is virtually shut down.
If you need to go through Atlanta on I75 or I85 you are out of luck.
The problem was caused by everyone closing their offices early and flooding the interstates with traffic.
There was sufficient snow and ice to bring everything to a crawl.
Many people did not get home for supper and were lucky to get there to see the 11:00PM news.

Re: "The survivors"

Crunching for coins has taken the joy out of WCG.
Never saw that coming.
I can't see donating run time as a charity when currency[real or imaginary] is involved.
While I feel pride in my stats others are checking their wallets to see how much currency their stats have earned.

I won't be inviting friends to join WCG any longer.
I am not sure that I still have a place at WCG.

My electric bill last month was $550.
A large part of that is running 5 PCs 24x7.
Is it really worth it to spend that much on something you may no longer believe in?

I do not plan to leave WCG at this time but am certainly on the fence about it.
There is certainly no ill will towards anyone that decides WCG is no longer for them.

Re: "The survivors"

I wish they [WCG] would stop screwing with the servers.
Can't login for the last 2 days with WCGDAWS.
Had this problem before due to server issues.

Like to use WCGDAWS because it makes it easy to keep count of the WUs progress or lack of.
Also good for knowing which PC is running BETAs whenever they let some loose.

I have not used a spreadsheet in a long time because WCGDAWS gives me plenty of info.
However, it is useless if it can't login.

Re: "The survivors"

nasher,
I have a lot of frustration with WCG.
Nothing personal--just venting.

If I was not running WCG I would probably do another [cancer] research non profit like Rosetta.

I'm sorry you are having problems.
Hope things improve for you.

Amen. Some team members have never commented, but are still running up great results.

From the department of useless facts:

Three members have fallen off the wagon:

Last results returned:
a: 12/28/12 14:27:25 [9,743+ hour(s) ago]
b: 9/23/12 07:27:54 [12,054+ hour(s) ago]
c: 4/21/13 11:15:03 [7,010+ hour(s) ago]

Three members haven't posted in a while:

Last post:
c: never posted
d: 10/25/2013 7:38
e: 3/30/2013 10:46
f: 12/24/2012 11:31

That leaves the 3 of us to entertain each other.

Re: "The survivors"

In fact, the team thread is not monitored by a CA or admin.
Therefore we should be free to discuss anything that does not violate the forum rules.
Meaning, we could make this thread more interesting.

Myself, I am interested in photography and have 3 cameras.
I am looking at purchasing a GoPro Hero 3 and a DJI Phantom quadcopter.
The camera is dynamite and can shoot still or in HD as high as 4k.
The latest DJI Phantom has a camera built in so may not need the GoPro.
The Phantom has GPS and returns to its reference point if the RC signal is lost.
You can use WiFi to view on your cell phone what the camera sees--streaming in real time.
GoPro provides FREE video editing software.
And neither the camera or quadcopter is expensive.
How cool is that!

Ahhhh...a new target for all those georgianians with shotguns. Excellent sport.

I like the idea of open discussions here.

After years of using marginal Point and Shoot cameras, i finally got a good Nikon DSLR. Takes great pictures in Auto mode, and i'm starting to use it
in Aperture and Shutter mode (love that depth of field thing).

Although the Nikon will do video, i'd rather use a real camcorder for this.
My Canon HD video cam produces excellent high def video, and with the two cameras together i make some pretty good multimedia DVD's we all enjoy.

Of course, now i gotta make both standard def to send to family, and high def for playing at home, with multiple copies of each. Sigh. laughing
