Re: A new dawn and beeter days!

That was a good one! BTW, it seems to have calmed down around here! My stats continue to grow, both quantitatively and qualitatively, since increasing my RAM to 512 MB. Poor, old, should have been mothballed years ago AMD Duron 1.6Gig chip just keeps on clicking. Single core, too!
Debug info should be coming soon, too, right folks! Hmm, it's too quiet here! Anyone I can insult, maybe!!! laughing laughing laughing rose good luck

Re: A new dawn and better days!

Thanks Kneed,

The reason why I was watching this thread was really to make sure the focus was not lost. Not to say is had, but to be sure it hadn’t. When I saw the CA's seemingly playing down the impact this problem could have, there needed to be a show of concern.

What happens when a problem with the tech end of a project is identified here? You need to disclose the hazard to allow consent of passage. Otherwise any traffic beyond that point by those hit by a problem unknowingly, will challenge their faith. An in the high seas of research, faith may be all you got.

This is why there are “small craft’s advisories”. It is to allow public consent. How do I know this? I am a maritime captain as well.

I need to see resolution here so I can proceed with the league. A league that would help expand the Team Challenge system and reduce the need for WCG's administration's involvement.

Right now I am seeing the end of the bell curve for team involvement in the challenges. I hope that this problem resolves first, before the need for leagues at all, vanishes.

Note the effect that the challenges have been. This is why I want to offer my skills as a captain once again. As an online military officer, far above the rank you see here.

So Captain-to-captain, general-to-general or just soldier-to-soldier:
Command has its privilege, but its responsibilities need to be met everyday through selfless devotion to your crew.

What am I saying in this post? Or are you sheep as well. As none of you addressed it.

Re: A new dawn and better days!

I'm not sure it needs addressing Courine - Kevin has clearly illustrated now that it is being given their attention, I think we should give him a chance to come back with further updates as the testing progresses smile

shock Re: A new dawn and better days!

At this point, a full disclose letter to all that crunch at WCG should be considered the minimum, to maintain the now needed civic awareness. Otherwise, stop sending work units until the problems here are resolved.

BTW, the reason why I have posted here, in this thread not elsewhere, is I don’t want to start an embarrassment thread that many others would see. Like the "BOINC damaging the environment" thread. So I post it here, to prevent another stain.

Re: A new dawn and better days!

Sadly this thread is now becoming an embarrassment anyway - maybe it would indeed be better for you to post what you need to in a thread elsewhere, as at the moment the legitimate posts are being drowned and I fear that the help and observations we want and need to get to the attention of the Techs to assist them with their testing to resolve this problem will not get through.

Re: A new dawn and better days!

This has become a problem far beyond the technical nature. There is a complete lack of civic awareness. This must be resovled as well.

On the sea, every captain knows this:

"My ship, my crew, my mission, myself."

In that order.

Re: A new dawn and better days!

No problem Courine - I have started another thread regarding the purely technical issues and I will leave this thread to you.

Re: A new dawn and better days!

Courine, Adywebb; WCG aren't so easily embarrassed. They have always been open about what is going on, so how can the truth hurt them?

The only thing that can hurt them is if people exaggerate the problem. This is just one of several routine performance and stability issues.

Other things the techs are having to deal with right now are:
* Occasional stability problems with Mac hosts
* The failure rate of HCC on Linux hosts
* ACH needs a lot of close attention
* There are still reports of Vista teething troubles

I hope this gives a little perspective.

The CAs nudge the techs when required, but continuous nagging is counter-productive.

Courine, Adywebb; I know you got burned by grid.org's empty promises. Haven't WCG done enough by now to show that they don't behave in the same way? Fixes take time, but the techs are working flat out on your behalf.

And the techs who spend time answering questions here are the *same* techs who should be busy solving the problems. That's why, much of the time you are left with us CAs to relay the status reports (or lack thereof).

applause Re: A new dawn and better days!

The only reason why I have said anything is I don’t want more people to leave, after the fact. How many don’t know that even there is a problem and are questioning their faith in WCG when they find out on their own?

If WCG admin's don’t want to do this, its fine for you and I, but at the cost of crunchers if they are not "Old Salts" to DC. There only need be 1 bad HCC work unit to a newbie and they will set sail for somewhere else, if not leave DC completely. The only reason why this problem hasn’t hit the stats yet, is that it’s spread out. If you run HCC only, you will see the problem more completely. I did, with half my crew. That is why I put the "storm warning" up.

I have a new thread to help this within the forum. It is hoped that by trading around machine time with systems that are not effected by the HCC problem, so we can return to full crunching capacity.

BTW, you guys must think I'm a war monger. That I like Bush and the war in Iraq. Oh God! Please dont make me puke! My "spirit" posts speak no such thing. The only thing it points to is the lack of spirit people have here.

Online I was known as CoraO'Nasty. Then my slogan was in battle "The last thing you will see, is my blade!" Now, after getting married for political reasons, I'm now CoraO'Seraphin. With the tagline "Dream or nightmare, your choice." My past spans the game over 15 calendar years and 100's of year of BattleTech. I pilot a Mech so feared, even my own worry. So powerful, that strategic, not just tactical elements of the game change.......... BUT THAT IS ONLINE!!!!

What you get when you remove the carnage from war, is a group working "Always beyond expectation". As in battle, only your absolute best equals survival, and ultimate victory.

The part you don’t get is that I'm at war with disease, here! The problem I find disgusting is if you are an avid cruncher here, you are a problem. As I see few people here like me, working to turn sheep into tigers.

courine,

One thing about sheep that you don't want to acknowledge is that sheep follow shepherds, not tigers. That's the way is is plain and simple.

Respectfully,

Diana G.
