Well... this is the way I see it (a view shared by some in posts above): it really doesn't matter WHO does the crunching, so long as it gets crunched by somebody. The badges are fun (more than I would have thought), but are worthless. The real worth of this task is participating with what you have. It doesn't matter if you can crunch 1000 WUs in one day or in one year, so long as you crunch.... do what you can with what you have. Now, is this project frustrating? Hell, yes !!! Catching a DDDT2 WU is like chasing after a fly with chop sticks. Hopefully, some day, DDDT2 will become a normal project... sort of like Pinocchio did

If ever I do reach my 2 years goal on Intermittent projects , I will be more than happy to be considerate enough to step aside and give others a chance to also reach their goals too... ![]() You got the point, tomast! I hope others will follow your example and be as considerate as you are. ![]() |

Hopefully, some day, DDDT2 will become a normal project... sort of like Pinocchio did ![]() This project will be less frustrating and "less abnormal" when some people here consider leaving their personal goals aside for doing good for their colleagues, their fellow crunchers. People, don't misunderstand me, I love you all for the help you are giving, and there's no doubt you are all doing good for humanity; but why not do "an extra level of good" by helping the other helpers? Yes, crunching is what matters, it doesn't matter who does it; then why not let other people do it more? Why do some people "need" to show off that they crunched 6 or 12 years? Please, review your behavior and consider what I'm saying; you'll make more people happy and do even more good. (Btw, I'm not talking directly to cjslman in this post, but to all the readers in this thread. So, cjslman, I have nothing against you. ![]() |

I would say it is because some of us have enough threads running 24/7 in our homes that we need bigger goals then just the blue badge. I for one can crank out a blue badge in 27 days with just the hardware that is turned on in my home. This doesn't count the systems I have "borged". So, like many others here I have given myself a goal of 5 years run time in each project. I'm also crunching 24/7 in my home, but only because I want to help 24/7. I don't need a bigger goal because of that; no one really NEEDS a bigger goal because of that. Think about it. ![]() You can use your extra power for crunching in other projects and make some people happy in this one by leaving them the WUs you would be crunching just because of your personal goal. A hint I'd give you is: after you got the badge you wanted, try to make your personal goal not to crunch for X or Y years, but to help your fellow crunchers and make them happy by letting them crunch more ![]() |

Simply put, getting the science done is the primary goal. Badges are irrelevant and worrying over who is doing what is juvenile at best. Yes, I understand it's frustrating when you are desperately pursuing work on an intermittent project. The work is there. Once this thing gets into full swing you'll be chocking on work. I am not seeking massive amounts of work but neither am I willing to deselect what I consider a worthwhile project so someone else can pad their badge. To paraphrase what you said, I am helping the helpers and it appears to be you who are the egoist. You get thousands of the available WUs and come here showing off your 12 years, just to satisfy your ego - while others get only a few WUs. Who is the egoist? As you said, it doesn't matter who crunches. I agree with you. Then why getting all the available WUs and not let your colleagues do the crunch in your place? They'll be happier and more encouraged. When you get all the WUs, they'll feel frustrated and less motivated. Think about it. ![]() |

The reason you don't agree with me is because WCG isn't making new badges for higher run times. The badges are quite frankly obsolete for todays processing capabilities. Your opinion is biased and unfair because you say I shouldn't have goals that exceed yours simply because of economics. I also think that the people not getting the work are also not doing the legwork to get them. (I'm not talking more PC's but rather paying more attention and making changes to their settings when rain hits.) I for one think it is hypocritical to tell people not to have goals simply because you are having a difficult time hitting yours. But, don't worry...I am now at 4 years and 90 days (approximately) toward my 5 year goal. After 5, I will not aggressively seek more. I hope that makes you feel better. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I am hoping that the next batch of WU will put me over 7 years and therefore bring me closer to my goal of 10 years. Just in case you were curious. |

I really don't care who does the crunching so long as it gets done. I think you're missing the point... the objective is not to about how many WUs we have crunched or have many badges we have. It's about participating and volunteering time and effort to improving life on our planet. It's as simple as that. As for this project being less frustrating/abnormal... nay ... it will never be that until the feeder priority gets moved to "Normal" (right now it's at "Med.Low"), which means that to get DDDT2 WUs, you have to select ONLY the DDDT2 project. Otherwise you will get very few WUs (if any) and which has NOTHING to do with how many WUs other crunchers are able to get. I don't have a lot a CPU power and I was able to get enough WUs to get my machines busy for several days (but you have to do a lot of babysitting). CJSL PS: no offense taken from your post.. I realize it was a general comment ![]() |

And yes I was kinda curious how far you have gotten since you have a ton of resources available. (and that isn't sarcasm) I have wondered about the progress of many of our large contributors. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

As a rough quantification, DG05 A+B+C type, groups a-d, totaled about 545,000 results, which was good for 161 runtime years [from late Nov.'11 till Jul.'12]. Truly have no idea if this is a complete target [there are/were 18 in the phase], after applying of latest knowledge, pre-processing improvements and rationalization that Dr. Usha has been working on. This phase has had 4,390,722 validated of the original 22.3 million that were extrapolated to come along during the whole of the intermactive phase.
Myself, except for testing on new development clients, maybe a speedier build for Linux ;P, just going to have ween of the hunting desire on this science, that is, DDDT2 remains selected and would the occasional drop into the mix, me clients will do them [likely a repair job of which a number came along this run]. |
