You actually did come to mind when I typed that. And yes I was kinda curious how far you have gotten since you have a ton of resources available. (and that isn't sarcasm) I have wondered about the progress of many of our large contributors. I wonder why you say that since your WCG RAC of 12,758 makes you 130% of mine at the current time and yesterday you finished 48 places better than I did in points, Oh Large Contributor. |

I wonder why you say that since your WCG RAC of 12,758 makes you 130% of mine at the current time and yesterday you finished 48 places better than I did in points, Oh Large Contributor.Because of statements like this... 3 Years done: FightAIDS@Home 2,121,634 2,743 3:003:17:28:20 Since this is one of the longest running projects, there are a lot of people with 5, 10, 25, 50 and more years completed. I have done 26 years into projects that are now complete or intermittent, since I was pretty sure that I could come back to FA@H once those projects were offline. So I crunch away, waiting for the return of dddt2 or the start of a new project, and maybe I will get to 5 or 10 years myself. ![]() Since the subject of this OT discussion was focused on goals that particuarly were about run time, you seem to have impressive resources available or at least at one time here. Edit: typo Edit2: I am not claiming to be that large. Compared to your numbers at BOINCStats, you have double what I have in points and as of right now are ranked 533 where I am ranked at 1387. All of this with one less year of member join date. Just some numbers for those misunderstanding your comments. When compared to most crunchers, that is pretty large contribution. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Jul 9, 2012 5:04:45 PM] |

I for one, would love to have more badges too! I suppose they are kind of fun :) And even with my 'meager' resources I would have quite a few more had I been here longer. I was one of the first crunchers back in the days of UD, (and one of the highest points accounts) but I became disillusioned with grid computing for a few years after that fiasco... I will say however, that it's all about the science! I would love to see more users, large anmounts of resources, whatever it takes to beat these diseases! Sure I'd like to grab some more badges along the way, but that's not what its all about, at least in my mind

I'm sorry Principe. If you weren't so involved with this obsession it might improve reading comprehension. Yes, 12 years is my standard goal for any project. In DDDT2 I have 2:127:15:14:10. My original statement was that I get more work without trying than I did while I was pursuing the badge. I have a lot of systems asking for work, some of them are simply going to get said work. Perhaps you don't quite understand the way the grid works. Those DDDT2 units last milliseconds. If every participant on this forum never requested another unit, that would improve your odds of getting a single work unit by a statistical anomaly. If your badge is that important to you, might I suggest that you actually WORK at it like those of us who have one did? There are numerous threads (including this one) that detail how to obtain scarce work units. I still maintain that I will not deselect a worthwhile project just so that you can feel better. My actions have zero effect on your ability to get work. Likewise, I am not actively pursing massive quantities until the intermittent phase is over - which it surely will be at some point. We all have our own personal goals. Jealousy and pettiness will not assist you nor will it hinder me or anyone else on this forum or at WCG. My point isn't either about ME or about getting BADGES. Therefore, as you weren't able to understand a word I said, I won't discuss it anymore. It's a lost case. Have a happy life! (Even though I know that being happy is impossible with vanity.) |

I'm a large contributor,
----------------------------------------that's why I'm going on a diet ![]() Part of my problem with DDDT2 badge hunting, is because it's SO hard to catch em, they seem so valuable I just HAVE to have em. Like is a pink diamond so much more 'valuable' than a regular one? Not really, it's just rarer so people want them. Edit: But I missed over half this rain I think, I just happened to notice a random WU on one machine, and then switched over, just did a 5 day cache (I think). So there were plenty for the hunters. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Jack007 at Jul 23, 2012 1:14:00 PM] |

It's been days since the last crawlers returned the final results for this C Type run... the chart at https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28546 suggesting we're in for a few months interlude before the next A-Type sets off a series. That is, if Dr. Usha is not going to surprise us. Till then, enjoy the rest of the Northern Hemisphere hot summer (Except for soggy England of course... where Olympic athletes have been leaving London again for warmer climes to continue training... just east across the North Sea where they serve bratwurst :).

Principe, I agree with you, 100%. All active projects should have work units flowing to all crunchers unless the cruncher in question clearly specified in his preferences not to receive any work unit from the project in question. The problem with this project is that it is not in active state like the other projects due to its very nature. When this project was approved, it was planned to be in the active state with work units flowing for at least a year. The scientists discovered that keeping the work units flowing was much more challenging than intended. At one point, work units for this project were flowing to all crunchers for a few weeks before it stopped due to issues with this project. Getting work units flowing smoothly again for a long time may or may not happen, just don't hold your breath. |

I need 19 more days to reach Sapphire. It took six months for the last rain to arrive. Hopefully it doesn't take that long again.
----------------------------------------I don't get why everyone is so upset about the work flow with this project. I haven't had any problems getting work when work becomes available. Monitoring this thread and setting my profile to Dengue only when new work is announced does the trick every time. This advice has been repeated over and over in this thread. Granted you won't make much progress during a single two week rainfall but after a few storms the badges will eventually arrive. It takes lots of patience to make headway in this project. I've only been able to reach Emerald since the beginning of Phase 2 running three machines (two duals, one quad). [Edit 2 times, last edit by AgrFan at Jul 24, 2012 2:38:49 AM] |
