At least for me, running several projects, the packages seem to be getting a little scarce.

Few are allowed to listen, let alone repeat what's coming through the grapevine, but "prediction" is, it [31] will stay there till the GPU implementation goes live to run parallel with the CPU version and then a new end date will be plotted for additional libraries to be crunched. It will be under the HCC1 label FAIOK. --//-- It sure would be nice to know if a NVIDIA GPU Card would be suitable for the new project. Say a EVGA GeForce GTX 580 or similar. If anyone knows for sure and would be willing to tell me I would very much appreicate it. I can be contacted at http://www.glenrosecomputers.com/CU.asp Thanks. |

Glad there was the approval for the creation of a GPU forum, hopefully implemented with the next web build... then it's all / can be moved in one place. The card requires OpenCL, no major brand card maker being left in the cold. If they run at other major GPU [BOINC] projects, more than very likely they'll be able to run here.

I know nothing about this but is that really openGL instead of openCL. Was that a typo or is there a difference?

OpenCL is a programming language for GPU cards. Programs like GPU-Z test this and show a ticked box if it's identified as loaded. The card crunching experts can pitch in how to check this for either NVidia or ATI/AMD/Radeon,

OpenGL info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenGL
----------------------------------------OpenCL info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCL As you can see, the difference is that GL is pretty much GPU only whereas CL is across pretty much everything. RT, OpenCL is what pretty much everyone is talking about. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The last time (end of last year) I spent some time learning more about graphic cards I found that everything Nvidia and ATI are selling nowadays supports OpenCL, but it is always better to check it specifically once you have narrowed your selection.
----------------------------------------![]() The problem on some resellers' sites is that OpenCL is not always mentioned (yes or no), so better use Nvidia's and ATI's own sites. |

That seems to be sound advice. I was about to go buy one but then a cash flow problem came up. Have to wait a few months. I will keep a close eye on them in the meantime. Thank you guys very much. |

So, when does the project end and when do we have its 2nd part with gpu?
