Re: Error reported by file upload server: No space left on server

I appreciate the programmers are working on this and generally doing a fine job. Two of my WUs were uploaded today after a two days wait, but another six are pending. I assume this issue will be fixed before my MCM task is due in five days. We just need a little patience.

Well, and we could read all that in a brief in-client notification. Or is it so HARD to implement?

Re: Error reported by file upload server: No space left on server

My machines are all running out, or have run out, of work and can't upload results.

Me too! Hoping it will be resolved soon.

@ Janus_Kobain
Your point is well made. The "all new" Communications features announced with great fanfare here only work if WCG use them to communicate and give better access to the information that matters to you

As I commented to jhindo in another thread:
Whilst News has solved the problem of "important research updates.... buried in a forum thread" other important information of interest to the wider community is still being buried in forum threads and the retirement of the Known Issues thread hasn't helped.

is an example to prove my point. The new communications features are great in many ways but without a seachange in WCG communications policy i.e. what, and how, information is shared with members, they're just gilding the lily!

More work is needed!

Re: Error reported by file upload server: No space left on server

@Scribe, and everyone: I apologize, but it posted my initial message twice somehow. I got no idea how.

@jonnieb-uk, thanks for your answer. Somehow notifications work for more than 5 years, so when I earn a little badge I see «Congratz!!». And this incident can bring WCG network to its far far ago state, since many users better spread a hand of solitaire or whatever else, or even power down their machines than experience «transient upload error», no news on the main page, no news in-manager, only p2p-talking here.

Re: Error reported by file upload server: No space left on server

Sorry for lack of updates the past 24 hours.

We are still trying to go through a backlog of results, it's not clearing as quickly as I was hoping. By stopping mcm1 the other day we are seeing a larger number of FAAH and CEP2 results returned which is good because they have smaller results. Unfortunately stopping work and the affects on the storage generally takes about 3 days for full affect but about 1-2 for a good change.

When we get back into normal uploads I will re-enable mcm1 but at a lower priority as to prevent large results from getting us again. We are formulating a plan to help prevent this in the future.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: Error reported by file upload server: No space left on server

CEP2 results returned which is good because they have smaller results.

Your statement makes me wonder. From my experience most results from CEP2 were above 90MB corresponding to their runtime. The newer CEP2 wus with runtime up to 18hrs were ~100MB each.
My network usage (upload) during the time I focussed on CEP2 only was ~1.7GB/day.
At this moment as I write this lines I have 8 results MCM1 waiting for upload. Their size is ~1.3MB.

However I know that you and the team are doing a great job. I really appreciate your work. I hope that the problems will be fixed soon.

Re: Error reported by file upload server: No space left on server

Eric,

CEP2 has a little bit different than MCM1. For CEP2 most of the large files get directly uploaded to the researchers instead of coming to us for verification. We take key pieces of that data for verification that gets sent to us. So even though to the member CEP2 is large, to us it is small. That and the volume of them is smaller. Compared to getting back 600,000 results per day for MCM1.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

No java intake, just Dr. Pepper. (which is similar to Coke for those wondering, I don't think it's very popular outside of Texas).

Thanks,
