Re: Work Available

Not a huge Trump fan,
nor of the super tax demos (though I liked Yang for his support of thorium/molten salt reactors)
So being kinda on the fence I put my 2 brain cells to work...
I got nothing.
He's rich, lots of power, gets his way?
So people with the money for a large farm get their way?

It's weak and I don't agree with it, I think people with the means to do such crunching do it with good intentions.
I'm a little badge happy, and if there were no badges, I'd probably just let it crunch and send me whatever work it felt like.

Re: Work Available

I got lucky in that I checked the forums within 30 minutes of when this project launched, went "Holy @#$% it's ready!" and immediately opted in. I think I got about 30 work units within the first couple hours it launched. biggrin

It's been a dry but steady flow of work units since then. To each his own. I don't freak out too much if I don't get work units. Like, I rarely get Betas, but I'll just work that much harder to get them in the future rather than whine.

Stay positive y'all. There's plenty more ARP1 work coming + two more huge climate projects (that IMO seem more interesting to me than rainfall) + more cancer stuff coming.

Re: Work Available

OK, set up schedule and started the bombardment, 3 in device profile and it is 3. Crunching 1 at a time per app_config. Last one in will still return well before the deadline and if it wont, BOINC will say 'no work fetched, won't finish in time'. It's either that or an idling CPU thread. Got an email asking to contribute to this project, so now I do steadily too.

Edit: Embarrassment highlighted, one Arp1 job 20 hours in, got suspended because the last received pertained to a No Reply, so now got about 2 days and 10 hours to complete this one.

ARP1_ 0007440_ 000_ 2-- Microsoft Windows 10 Core x64 Edition, (10.00.18363.00) - In Progress 11/12/19 08:08:09 11/14/19 18:56:09 0.00 0.0 / 0.0
ARP1_ 0007440_ 000_ 1-- Microsoft Windows 10 Education x64 Edition, (10.00.17763.00) 727 Pending Validation 11/5/19 08:08:07 11/6/19 10:48:38 17.92 667.7 / 0.0
ARP1_ 0007440_ 000_ 0-- Microsoft Windows 10 Core x86 Edition, (10.00.18362.00) - No Reply 11/5/19 08:08:06 11/12/19 08:08:06 0.00 0.0 / 0.0

Because of the high priority, the earlier job is now sitting there 3:10:21 hours past the last checkpoint per BOINCStats, hours away from completion. Glad LAIM is on.

Re: Work Available

CPDN can be a frustrating project to contribute too. Work units are long, their credit system is/was unstable, work availability is inconsistent and some of the models will fail if the machine is rebooted a few times to many. While the WU can take weeks to complete, the project does award partial credit based on the work completed, even if the tasks fails.

I have a machine that I leave on all the time and let it request work and crunch CPDN when WUs are available. Even when no WUs available for your OS and configuration you might get a redo.

With all it's faults and frustrations the work is so important that I just grin and bare it!

Crunching CPDN since 2006.

You forgot that Oxford is on a Medieval academic calendar, and they don't work weekends or holidays (of which there are many), which is when their servers/database/whatever invariably fail.

But you are right, it is important.

Re: Work Available

I've gotten 1 ARP workunit in nearly a week of trying. This is just ridiculous. Perhaps this project should be relegated to the "Intermittent" category if this is the best WCG can do.

Re: Work Available

The purpose, as with all projects, is not to provide amusement and entertainment for crunchers. It is to get the work done. It appears that they have more than enough volunteer help for that. That is good.

They should not make big announcements to

Total Run Time 1,918,801 years
Points Generated 2,628,891,141,033
Results Returned 5,024,281,489

And then only issue 1700 tasks daily. It's a joke

(Uplinger wrote more was on the way, and work would be random times released rather fixed times when the big nets come out)

Oh Boo Hoo. I'm not getting my fair share of the new project WUs.. Woe is me. Need some cheese with that whine. If you're so unhappy with the way things are run why are you here?

it's disappointing to see responses like these... what are they trying to achieve other than target someone you disagree with who's expressing his opinion on a discussion board?
