Re: Work Available

Several people (including me; ) have mentioned setting up cron jobs or scheduled tasks to do the updates. The easy way in Windoze is to make a one line batch file containing " boinccmd.exe --project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ update" and use Task scheduler to run it at the desired time. You do something similar with Unix OS's. Just google cron jobs (Unix) or Task Scheduler (Windoze) for info and examples.

It has been a zillion years since I have screwed with autoexec files and such. I thank you for your input. I used the google to find out how to do the task scheduler part.. I found this. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-create-aut...task-scheduler-windows-10

Re: Work Available

That's a good, in depth tutorial on making scheduled tasks. It's actually much simpler if you use the GUI. Just save the " boinccmd.exe --project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ update" (of course, not including quotes) as a text file and change the .txt extension to .bat to make it executable. Then use the task scheduler GUI (Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools) to add a new task triggered at the desired time to run that bat file.

Re: Work Available

Many thanks...One less need for a deep drive into trivia... But I kept the link (along with many others) for something to play with in the future. ;))))

Re: Work Available

Don't even bother making a batch file. That's an extra step. In Windows in the "Actions" tab, just do:

"Start a program"
Program/script: "C:\Program Files\BOINC\boinccmd.exe" (including the quotes)
Add arguments (optional): --project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org update

Re: Work Available

Here's how I set up a crontab: Re: Using Scheduled boinccmd to get HSTB Work
Adjust the minute attribute accordingly for the ARP1 project.

That same thread includes Windows Scheduled Task instructions. I've since modified it to repeat every 30 minutes for 23.5 hours since I was getting a duplicate execution at the 24 hour mark.

Re: Work Available

Sgt. Joe, this isMikey159C using my other account today, and I have over 100 cpu cores and have gotten a grand total of one workunit, that's the point I was trying to make, it's not to get a 10 year badge tomorrow it's to crunch this new project on something, one a week is okay for me but ZERO is why I posted. I will try the chron thing later on as I have mostly windows machines but I much prefer the 'reserve a unit list' that someone else posted about instead, in fact several Boinc projects could use that.

Re: Work Available

Agreed, in this case you can do it all within the Task Scheduler GUI. I like to make a self-contained bat to run independently - makes it much easier to test and run manually when needed (not only for BOINC!). There are a dozen different ways to do this task and it comes down to personal preference.

Re: Work Available

Seems like another project where the badge hunters slurp up any WUs and no one else can contribute.

Guess I will continue to do MIP/MCM.

and even they're getting frustrated at this fine mist of WU's that are descending into their work stream.

Perhaps this project is trying to replicate the dry desert conditions that are found in certain parts of Africa.

Hopefully, the heavens will soon open, the wells will be filled, thereby allowing rivers of WU's flood into their reservoirs and the overspill to replenish others dry sands. Then, we'll see the green shoots of happiness amongst the crunching community biggrin
