Re: OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Beta Test April 20, 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

Version 7.09 with additional work units will be sending out shortly. I have updated the announcement with details. These work units are again built manually and will not be sized, variations in runtime will exist.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

First one just landed here BETA_OPN1_TEST001_0230_0

Will crunch immediately

Edit: App Memory 112 256 KB

Windows 8,1
CPU: i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz

Edit2: Screen saver working too, but it says that Covid-19 is a highly communicable virus.

That's not correct, Covid-19 is the disease, the virus is SARS-CoV-2

I saw the post about the new application that needs to be tested? Is there a place to download this application? I'm referencing a Windows machine. Very interesting in helping w/COVID-19

WinstonCooper,

This is a beta test. You need to go here: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewBetaProfiles.do

And make sure that beta is selected for all of your profiles. Once this is done, the agent will automatically try to get beta work when it is available.

We do not have many work units for testing at the moment, so it is random / good timing for getting Beta. I appreciate your interest in helping with COVID-19 and the other projects on World Community Grid.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Beta Test April 20, 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

Have just tried restarting the ones I got on my Windows machine. I did it in a rather brutal way. My AV had just done a major update and required to reboot the pc, so I just said yes rather than exiting BOINC first.

All WU's restarted ok the Beta ones restarted from zero even though a couple were over 10% complete at that point, but that would be because I had BOINC set to only checkpoint at most every 100 mins and they wouldn't have been going for long enough. Others WU's have already finished though since they were short units. So short I hadn't even noticed them arriving.

So no major issues that I can see. Memory usage appears reasonable when compared with some other projects, and it doesn't appear to be too hard on disk I/O.

Re: OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Beta Test April 20, 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

I got four more workunits, and had an opportunity to observe three.

Test001_1084. System: dual epyc 7301, 64 gb ram, running 64 concurrent BOINC threads, running Linux Mint. Estimated GFLOPs size of unit: 33,991.
Virtual Memory size: 178.85 MB; working set size: 113.95 MB
There seems to be 4 "steps" per 2% progress, for a total of 200 steps. It progresses in .001% increments, until it hits the next checkpoint, at which point it increases it to the next nearest 2% increment. Average time per step seems to be around 15 seconds. Looks like this one will run about 50 minutes.

TEST001_0418. System: Ryzen 7 1700, 16 gb ram, running 16 concurrent BOINC threads, running Linux Mint. Estimated GFLOPs size of unit: 33,991
Virtual Memory Size: 179.0 MB, Working Set Size: 114.25 MB
There are either 10 or 10.5 "steps" per 2% progress, for an averaged total of 525 steps. (One time, I saw it go from 22.009 to 22.010, and then about 30 seconds later, it went to 24%. But it looked like it went from 24.009% straight to 26%. I might have missed something though.) It progresses in .001% increments, until it hits the next checkpoint, at which point it increases it to the next nearest 2% increment. Average time per step seems to be around 55 seconds. Looks like this one will run a bit over 8.5 hrs.

TEST001_0342: System: System: Ryzen 7 1700, 16 gb ram, running 16 concurrent BOINC threads, running Linux Mint (a different, but identically configured, system as the other one). Estimated GFLOPs size of unit: 33,991
Virtual Memory Size: 182.5 MB, Working Set Size: 116.88 MB
There are 4 "steps" per 2% progress, for a total of 200 steps. It progresses in .001% increments, until it hits the next checkpoint, at which point it increases it to the next nearest 2% increment. Average time per step seems to be around 55 seconds. Looks like this one will run for about 3.33 hrs.

Observations: as usual, the GFLOPs estimate does not mean anything. The size of the unit will depend on the length of each "step" and how many "steps" are in that particular workunit, at least with current naming conventions. That will probably change once actual units are deployed, though.

The one unit I did not get to observe (on my dual epyc 7301 system) lasted only 1 minute 12 seconds, but did record all checkpoints. They all seem to be running fine.
