Re: March 20, 2023 Hardware Recovery Update

Dear Dr Jurisica,

Good morning! smile

Is it possible, or is there already a patch available,
  • to fix the issue where "user progress as shown in the BOINC Manager is not reflected in your My Contribution page" (see Comprehensive Issue List & Report Thread (Feb. 24, 2023)) and/or
  • to fix the issue where the "Missing pagination buttons on project statistics history" are involved (see the same Comprehensive Issue List) and/or
  • to fix the issue where the search function in the Help pages produces the following error: "An unexpected error occurred: error.message.system.cant.access.index" (NOT listed on Comprehensive Issue List & Report Thread (Feb. 24, 2023)), but mentioned in post 680751)?

If needed, your volunteer community can help with the "Missing pagination buttons". I have downloaded these missing buttons from their exact locations on web.archive.org and placed them on https://a3a3.home.xs4all.nl/wcg/img/. cool

    Adri

  • Hi Adri, the third issue has been added to our todo list and the tech team has been notified. The other issues are still being worked on.

What tasks do you have there sitting in your queue, Dennis Menace? And how many? Do you have the need to delete them?

Do not delete them. All the deadlines have been extended. Whenever Krembil again becomes operational, they will be uploaded. I could be sarcastic about "whenever" may occur, but I wouldn't do that.
    Cheers

We have been told in the past that the deadlines will all be extended so "stuck" work will be accepted once it's possible to upload again

An observation on this - when I checked on this for the first time today [early evening (UK time), 31st March], my "In Progress" tasks now all have Time due exactly 37 or 40 days after the Sent time instead of the previous 23 or 26 days, so it looks as if the BOINC server's "grace period" has been raised from 20 to 34 days[1] :-)

Hopefully, that ought to give them long enough for all the pending uploads to happen and be reported without the system deciding to create new work because of "No Reply" status (assuming they can turn the upload server back on soon...) I suspect there will be some retries sent out anyway, as some folks may have deleted stuff as part of "giving up"...

As mentioned previously (elsewhere), the client is never made aware of the grace period -- the deadline reported by the client is for "must start before", not "must return by"... The only relevant deadline for result retention is the one reported on the server (combined with whether a result is returned before the other results get validated!)

    Cheers - Al.

[1] The 23-to-37-day cases are OPNG, which has an initial deadline of 3 days rather than 6...

Re: March 20, 2023 Hardware Recovery Update

According to my RESULTS screen ON WCG, all WU’s that have not yet been uploaded have a due date of April 10th!

The due date on YOUR COMPUTER’s BOINC software, although you might be worried, is not the current, actual due date and has been superseded by the dates in the RESULT section as I mentioned above.

So your concern about late WU’s has been addressed and will take priority when we are finally able to connect and transfer WU’s. Your work will not be lost unless they are deleted off YOUR computer by YOU before that transfer happens.

I am looking forward to resuming crunching!

Yup, that seems to have been changed this morning...

Well, as mentioned before, that date is totally irrelevant, at least for completed WUs, as this simply can't be updated in the BOINC client when there is no communication back to the BOINC server at WCG...
I am looking forward to resuming crunching!
Well, so we all do, I guess... wink
