@Cyclops: A bit of this and that ...
Thanks for the updates today (27 March 23) A suggestion for the head post of this new thread: Indicators of guestimated completion percentage for each phase of getting WCG fully functioning again, updated approximately daily, would be nice. Plus it would help to relieve the frustration that many of us volunteer contributors have been feeling and expressing, and reduce the number abandoning WCG. --- In your last post in the closed thread, you have used the word "this" 3 times, and the meaning is confusing. In "New updates will be posted in the initial post of this thread", "this" surely means the thread in which the message was posted, ie the closed thread. Suggested edit: "the new Hardware Recovery Updates thread" And dot your i's and cross your t's ![]() |

You seem to have missed the update in the first post of this thread. Cyclops sneaked it in via an edit of an old post so it stayed at the beginning. |

I fired up Folding@Home in the meanwhile; hadn't run for them in a few, and had run for them for over a year during the worst days of the pandemic. But I am ready and willing to restart with WCG whenever they get everything fixed.

I've run software declared "Win10 compatible" by the software maker only work right after running the Compatibility Checker and being told to run it as an earlier Windows version (!) This continues to happen to this day, because lazy developers and programmers obviously didn't do their homework when declaring compatibility. Actual testing? What's that? (It happens in Linux as well, which I run daily at home).
----------------------------------------. Krembil tried to do the impossible with nothing; not a good strategy, but they also got bit by hardware failures as well as their inexperience with some of the software they were going to run on. Their luck is rather like mine. They need some lucky breaks, a pile of cash, some additional staff, something made out of Unobtainium-381, and me as a consultant. (What? I work fairly inexpensively, especially if there's a Tim Horton's nearby with some cute female staff I can flirt with). It's a dirty job, but I volunteer.

Moderators: My comment related to the now-closed thread regarding restarting/recovery, and comments about financial help for WCG, including comments regarding U.S. citizens donating to the UHN Foundation.

U.S. tax deductability questions should be directed to your tax advisor(s). Some posters wrote about tax-deductions for donations to WCG via the UHN Foundation. According to an United States Internal Revenue Service Tax Exempt Search Tool, the University Health Network Foundation (U.S.), Inc.(access via UHN's site at https://uhnfoundation.ca/who-we-are/american-friends-of-uhn/) is a legal way for U.S. citizens to donate and receive a tax receipt. . UHN Foundation's "American Friends of UHN" is listed with the US IRS as a 501(c)(3) on their Tax Exempt Organization Search tool (https://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/).

Well, nice find, but it should still be verified that any donations through the US entity still make it to WCG!. I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning
![]() or, at least, that’s my take on what my feelings are while waiting for WCG to make their next steps in returning to fully active! |
