This has been the warmest October day I ever remember. 83F(28C) here today under a bright sun. I took the opportunity to finish painting and caulking my porch window. I need to replace some siding on the porch also, but so far I have not been able to find 10 in bevel siding. Several places have 8 inch but no 10. Tomorrow I will try another lumberyard. The heat brought out the ladybug (asian lady beetles) population. The south side of the house was covered with thousands of them. We had sprayed part of the house in anticipation of this so after they landed and walked around a bit they died. I thought I was going to have a little drift of dead bugs. I swept the steps several times. Once we get a good frost they will be gone. I can not believe I am still picking tomatoes, but it is nice they have a chance to ripen nicely this year. I have also had a bumper crop of black walnuts. I gave away 5 five gallon buckets and still have two more. I think I got the last of them today finally.

Cheers Do you have any experience about these vinyl siding? Local dudes (USA-manufacturer) offer 50y warranty for those, so even pretty expensive, safe nerves from scratching old paint every ten year. What I have read from Internet, they have >40y experiment about this concept on Canada where climate is quite equal with here on Thule. http://www.glan.fi/ Edit: If I ever ger _real_ rich" then I will use enamel as siding, last for thousand years and is autocleaning ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 4 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Oct 15, 2015 7:08:06 PM] |

Yes, I have some experience with vinyl siding. It is not something I can afford now, nor in the near future, not unless I win the lottery or something. So for the foreseeable future I will continue scratching paint and repairing siding. I did find a place which carried the ten inch, but they only had it in cedar which was way more expensive than I wanted to pay but did anyway. Got it all installed and caulked. I will paint it tomorrow.

Good luck on the painting Joe. It sucks but something that has to get done. If I won the lottery, would have someone do it for me.

Pretty quiet out there. I have been plenty busy of late. I did get all of my painting done for this year, but there wil be a bunch for next year. No need to overdo it.
----------------------------------------I was down to see my mother, she just turned 86. I usually speak with her on either Saturday or Sunday. She had just gotten new tires put on her car about two months ago and had gotten a flat. It must have happened close to home, because she did not notice anything when she put the car away, but did the next morning. She had gotten road hazard insurance on the tires so she called and explained the problem and the dealer agreed to fix or replace the tire. She said she needed someone to put her spare on so she could get there, so they sent out a guy and put the spare on. Unfortunately, he did not check the pressure in the spare, so by the time she got to the dealer, she was riding on the rim of the spare. They told her the rim was ruined and she would need a new rim and tire for the spare. (It was one of those doughnut spares.) They quoted her some outrageous figure in excess of $200 for a new one, but luckily she did not bite. She did get her original flat replaced for free though. I told her not to worry about the spare, as I would get another one for her and re-install it where it belonged. I checked a couple of junkyards, found one for $20 and brought it to her. I told her I would recycle the old one for her. Of course the tire was shot, but after I removed the tire, the rim looked perfectly good yet. I am not happy with the tire dealer, but I am happy with my mother who still is smart enough to know when something does not smell right. She knows her limitations and only drives about 15 miles a week, to church and the grocery store. If she has to go anywhere she is not comfortable with, she gets one of her children who live closer than I do to take her. She says she may give up driving completely if it does not feel right to her anymore. Anyway hope everybody is having a good week. Cheers

Hi Joe
----------------------------------------![]() It's in the air, think been there since Punic Wars or something. Here is one back..... I kind of get ripped by local souce dealer, in pretty evil way. Father's day here and since my own kind of chili-head, did send bottle like always. I did receive best-bottle-for-pap email from local (physically) souce shop, did buy Private Reserve bottle from 2011, cost me some 40€ which is very ookoo price generally. Next day this same dude did drop price of very same bottle to 20€, which is not kind of ookoo, since it kind of make me look that I'm worst possible cheap goat on planet. Did found out later that dude need to get warehouse sold, since local regulation does not allow selling those after this year. So this douche bag did send email to all hardcore chili-fans to get first load sold, and after that did drop price 50% to get every last item from shelf as general item. Really crappy on that matter that it did take three days to get that bottle to North, so my pap did have this cheap-coat-special as fathers day gift from me ![]() Edit. Boy, I bet that just roasted your gizzard. Just remember, it is the thought that counts. Bet he enjoys it just the same whether you paid 5€ or 50€.

Just got back from visiting the grand kids in colorado. Drove this time. Some dork blew his drive train and left the metal pieces in the road. Back tire caught it and cut it open. Only 18000 on the fairly new tire. Found out my new truck has a donut. Never seen that before. Next town did not have my type of tire but a similar one would have ran almost 300 bucks. Limped it to my daughters. Son in law runs a mechanic shop so got a new tire from dodge dealer at his cost so 160 bucks. Free install. Still scratching my head on a donut for a half ton truck.

I don't know if your truck has room for a full size spare, but if it does I would go to the junkyard and invest in a full size one. I would think it would not be too hard to find and I would rather have that than a donut, especially if you had to go any distance with a load on. Cheers
