Re: Interesting problem

Pretend i never visited this thread and until anything new is tabled that has not already been posted in 2 specific topiced threads of the HCC forum, there's nothing to discuss. The errorring has though not been presented before and seems, from forum reports rather isolated, which would never come out of lab or beta tests.

BTW, dont know what the conspiracy theories are that ported from the grorg, but there are none here that I know off.

Re: Interesting problem

It'll be a few days until I have a better "feel" for how my systems are doing after the switch from dddt exclusively to HCC exclusively as I have changed reporting hours and such, but my immediate impression was "wow thats a lot less points.." with no measured basis at all.

I've had this change around to try and lessen the impact on the network in the branch office I work in, I was crunching dddt so fast I was constantly using a noticable (to our network guys) portion of our link so I switched over to HCC for it's longer crunch time. I am now trying to figure out the smallest communication window necessary to keep enough WU's in the pipeline....any tips on increasing this would be gratefully recieved smile

tongue Re: Interesting problem

Sekerob!

This is not the right way of telling me, that I am not the person you like being in your project. You could just tell me to leave.
A forum is not a place for a faq. A forum is not a place to help. Help comes from someone or a group of people, but it also comes to you and you directly. Putting support off to a forum is nonsense, as the person having the problem is not focused on. Other people can spam the forum while you are waiting for an answer.
What I suggest is that WCG begins thinking as a company who is trying to sell its products and who supplies support as well. Why? Because not WCG is paying for the resources this project is using.
Why am I putting it here and not on the support forums? Coz I cant care less for a support team that is hiding behind a slow and complicated mechanism, so that it is a pain in the neck to reach them or to get any answers from them. Also because you came here and we started to talk avbout it here.
Sekerob: You are doing a good job. You go to the root of the problem and try to solve it as you are supposed to. But. Do not keep trying to rephrase what I am ttrying to get to you, we have a language problem here, my mothertongue is not english, maybe I cant express my thoughts correctly, but I am trying. You are trying to get me off this thread for whatever reason.
I am not writing on other threads really, so I wont be in the future. Maybbe if I see an old friend I'll drop in and say hi, but do not expect it to be on the support forum....

The problem is there and I am here to naswer your questions if you have any.

Let me know if things get better and I 'll put priority back to WCG

Re: Interesting problem

Increasing your cache would be a solution if you have a time window somtime during the weekend or the nights when you can fill it up. The client gives you a 10days interval, also you can set the times to communicate, I guess if you find the time to fill it, you people will not mind.

I take it that Sek is upset. Let me ask you this, "what do I have to gain?" If you thing that I trying to make a mess, relaize that what I'm trying to avoid. As the only thing I have to gain is a headache.

When I talk if back alley info, im really talking of the emails that have allowed me to see something that would look like a scattergram of problems. This is because I dont hide my email addy.

The one common thread through almost all the issues ive detected is the HCC project. This is what caused my first round concern and further follow up of the problem.

When I first notice any problems with the stats, the first thing I did is look in the related forums. What I saw was enough to warent caution, as we grid.org people would dive headlong into the HCC project.

What I am working on, as you may know, is the fix for the team challenge competitions. Why would I want to cause damage to a project that I am spending much time on helping. The part of this that I must dedicate time to this side issue and away from a more primary goal of getting more crunchers onboard.

To help matter in this, lets let Pepe and Roger be test cases, if they dont mind. Basicly it will only require a week or so fo stats taken over a 2 week period. Between the 3 of us, a great portion of the pc windows platforms can be represented. If they follow the suggested path and the problems Ive seen clear as well, then what we will have is much more of a solution than a problem.

confused Re: Interesting problem

I've already put more priority to other tasks BOINC is running, but if you want I'll return to my normal values. In case I give prio to WCG, it might happen, that those above mentioned problems arise and I'll be away having Christmas and new year fun, I'll be paying for my PCs running in loops here!

biggrin Re: Interesting problem

Here, do this: Move all <1ghz or pc100 machines to DDDT. Move all single core machines to HCC. Move all the rest to either FAAD and WCG Folding projects. The go have fun. When you come back, let me know of any down machine time you can account for.

If Roger does the same and his results follow suit, we then will have enough to bug the techs about.

Re: Interesting problem

The only machine I seem to be getting errors on is the core duo with Vista. None of the P4s seem to be generating errors.
I am adding a different core duo laptop today that I wiped Vista Home Premium from and installed XP Pro.
It was a little bit of a challenge getting all the drivers, since Toshiba never offered this model with XP, but it seems to work with the drivers I found for the individual components.
One error from the Vista core duo is as follows:
<core_client_version>5.10.20</core_client_version>
