Immune system early responder can combat COVID-19
A simple RNA molecule jumpstarts the immune system’s “first responders” to viral infection and can even eradicate the SARS-CoV-2 virus in mice with chronic cases of COVID-19, a new Yale School of Medicine study finds. The molecule, known as SLR14, is a simple, easy to manufacture, loop of RNA that can trigger the production of interferons, a group of proteins produced by immune cells that are key to the body’s innate, or initial, response to infection. Multiple studies have shown that COVID-19 patients who produce high levels of interferons have far better outcomes than those for whom interferon levels are low during early days of infection. Covid: New heavily mutated variant B.1.1.529 in South Africa raises concern
----------------------------------------"In a media briefing Prof de Oliveira said there were 50 mutations overall and more than 30 on the spike protein, which is the target of most vaccines and the key the virus uses to unlock the doorway into our body's cells. Zooming in even further to the receptor binding domain (that's the part of the virus that makes first contact with our body's cells), it has 10 mutations compared to just two for the Delta variant that swept the world." UK and Israel have already banned travel from several countries. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

WHO labels new COVID strain as a variant of concern named Omicron with possible reinfection risk https://cnb.cx/3cPv41T ![]() I know it's probably not appropriate to post this here but I still like to express my frustration after months of crunching for this project. With so many variants, spreading faster and dealier, coming out, my question is: ARE WE FIGHTING A LOSING WAR? I'm not a biologist or a doctor so I don't quite understand the project description on Forli Lab's web site. Can someone tell me that we are crunching to look for sth that target Covid-Sar-2 in general, including all variants, not variant bound, not like current vaccines? Please give me some hope before I commit more compting power.

We are trying to find a cure for pandemics - not just Covid-19. This is not the first SARS type of virus, nor will it be the last.
Hopefully we will find something that will be usable for a wider range of viruses. |
