In case somebody of the team wants to communicate I open this thread (although I am not the team captain).
----------------------------------------I think it would be nice to learn about other members. ![]() Some info about me: I am living in Bavaria/Germany and I have taken part in other DC projects, especially FAD (now closed). At the moment I have running 6 AMD Athlons @ 2 GHz 24/7. (More info can be found at my home page.) I am curious to hear from other members . . . ![]() Ask not what the world can do for you - ask what you can do for the world. To avoid discussing with me alone I use this thread as a log (until somebody new arrives).
----------------------------------------![]() Today I have switched 4 machines to BOINC. The 2 other AMDs are crunching exclusively HCMD with UD Agent and UD Monitor. The winter has been extreme mild here in Europe. So I fear I have to turn off most of the machines very early this year because of overheating (of my flat, not of the PCs!). /edit/ Just 4 days . . . and I'm totally BOINC addicted. ![]() Now all my machines are running BOINC 5.8.11 with configuration 'file_xfer' turned off and 'task_debug' (for checkpoints getting noticed in messages) turned on. ![]() Ask not what the world can do for you - ask what you can do for the world. Recently I've added my first dual core machine with AMD64 2 x 2.6 GHz. Now I use BOINC 5.8.16 for Windows.
----------------------------------------Still it's cool enough to let all 8 CPUs run 24/7. ![]() ![]() Ask not what the world can do for you - ask what you can do for the world. |

Hi, Dieter. I'll be a member of a CultureQuest® team on Sunday. Wish me luck because there is so much that I don't know!
----------------------------------------Good luck with this team. Wayne Farmer should join the team. I met him at the United Devices annual picnic in North Carolina a few years ago. He was a member of the Mensan team at UD (Grid.org). I'm with Plum Ugly, VaVega, PresterJohn, Roadtech, and the gang. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Vester at Apr 29, 2007 3:56:57 AM] |

Hello Vester,
----------------------------------------nice to 'hear' you again! ![]() I don't worry about your ability to enjoy and to enrich this contest, Vester. Due to my few narrow interests I surely would be totally lost at such an event. ![]() Though some Mensans usually are quite talkative this thread isn't too active as you see. ![]() Plainly spoken I planned to join an inspiring team with valuable discussions. It hasn't to be a Mensan team, a team dedicated to Albert Schweitzer (or to Sir John Templeton, or to Warren Buffett) would be suitable, too. ![]() But I think I shouldn't create one by myself because I am not as communicative as a team captain should be. ![]() Thanks for your post, Vester. ![]() ![]() Ask not what the world can do for you - ask what you can do for the world. |

I survived the CultureQuest®!!! I am very pleased that I knew about Reynolds numbers and was able to describe the use in discussions of laminar and turbulent flow. I learned that in an Oceanography course at the University of Washington in 1968. The lab for the course "Sedimentary Processes" was in the hydraulics lab.
----------------------------------------That was an area of interest for me in modifying heads, exhausts, and intakes for engines. Hot-rodding was a passion in those days. I later applied that information to understand noise spokes caused by irregular surfaces or marine growth on sonar domes of ships. Now I need to learn more about augmented fifths. I also knew the "air speed velocity of an unladen swallow". (Clue: Monty Python) ![]() I'll try to contact Wayne Farmer. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Vester at Apr 29, 2007 11:52:31 PM] |

I just joined. Didn't renew my Mensa membership this year since I never go to the meetings. If I do rejoin, will see if I can get something into the local newsletter. Submitting something to the national newsletters would also be a good idea for those with active membership.
----------------------------------------I know WCG is expecting a lot of people from the Grorg (grid.org), but since many of their million or so members were inactive and many of the machines were just on autopilot, I don't think the influx will be as great as has been hoped (feared?) ![]() ![]() |

You should have some interesting, mature and more intelligent conversations here Vester mate. ![]() Mensans like to let their hair down and socialize, Whl. Don't expect too much. ![]() I'm glad you joined, twilyth. It is nice to meet you. Or do I know you by a different nickname? These project changes can be tough. The hardest part is the splitting of teams and trying to decide which team to join. I'd like to be a member of many teams. Twilyth, I'll prepare an article for my local Mensa group, Piedmont Area Mensa. Maybe I can get some of them to join. Crunching isn't for everyone and Mensans are a diverse lot. How is the TSC project going, Dieter? I found your hompage and bookmarked it again. One of my two granddaughters, age 19, will soon be a junior at the University of Hawaii. Her cousin, also my granddaughter, is in the tenth grade at Tamagawa Gakuen. ![]() |

Thanks.
----------------------------------------I had a couple of ID's when I was with the Grorg but never posted much - mainly used Xycthian. It's nice to meet some cyber-Mensans. My local group (central NJ) has been less than exciting - although I haven't really given them much of a chance in recent years. They do however throw one heck of an AG. Whatever you submit to your local pub could probably go uneditted to "The Mensan". Of course I think their lead time is a couple of months, but even so. . . ![]() ![]() |
