Re: The Formula One Thread

And a good news is that there was further proof of Felipe Massa’s strong recovery on Friday, as Ferrari revealed that the injured driver hopes to fly back to his native Brazil early next week. Massa sustained a fractured skull in an accident during qualifying for last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

“Felipe Massa's health condition is improving day by day so that a return back home could be imminent,” said Ferrari. “If everything proceeds the best possible way, Felipe could leave Budapest on Monday to be brought to Sao Paulo.”

Massa left intensive care on Wednesday, having spent several days in an artificial coma following emergency surgery on his injuries. He has since made rapid progress and is now expected to continue his recuperation with his family.

New deal ends F1 breakaway fears

The future of Formula 1 has been secured after the sport's governing body and 12 teams put pen to paper on a new Concorde Agreement.
The agreement, which runs until the end of 2012, brings to a close months of wrangling between the FIA and the Formula 1 Teams' Association (Fota).
The FIA said the signing heralds "a renewed period of stability" for F1...

Re: The Formula One Thread

I read that Ferrari had applied to have the general ban on testing lifted for Schumi. Anyone heard if it was granted?

For a one day test in the F60 the FOTA-teams said yes, so now it's up to Force India and Williams, it has to be unanimous.

And apparently Williams and also the Red Bull-teams are against it. rolling eyes
Williams hiding behind the rules but they probably want to protect the chances of Rosberg. thinking

Actually they said it was because of the replaced Bourdais that the ywould not allow MS to test. Apparently when Bourdais was let go the teams asked to let the new guy test and it was turned down. They are now saying fair is fair. Personally I think MS will do just fine, although a podium will be an amazing feat! I think more likely points are the goal and to just enjoy the experience. Get thru this first race cleanly with no incidents, get the rhythm back, get some points and move on to the next race. Massa may or may not be back this season, the key is to not make things worse in case he does! I also think Kimi will be a fired up driver, if MS comes in and does better than Kimi, Kimi will not be with Ferrari next year!! The old guy that has been out of the sport for a couple of years CAN'T be better than the new guy that is driving full time! Yes the old guy was good, really good, but that was then and this is now.

Re: The Formula One Thread

With the ban on testing it seems odd to have this four week break in the season. Do they all go and lay on the beach or are the stuck in front of a computer screen?

"Ferrari said on Tuesday that test driver Luca Badoer will instead drive Massa's car in Valencia and beyond." from here http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-schumacher-calls-off-return/

I for one hoped MS would be able to drive, he was good, 7 time World Champion good, and once a racer always a racer. It is part of his make-up, personality, etc, etc to compete. I think he would have been lucky to get into the points but I also think he would tried very hard and it would have been exciting to watch him drive again.

Re: The Formula One Thread

That is correct

Following the news that Michael Schumacher has had to call off his planned return to Formula One racing, Ferrari have announced that test driver Luca Badoer has been drafted in to race at the European Grand Prix later this month.

Schumacher had hoped to stand in for the injured Felipe Massa in Valenica, but neck pain caused by a motorcycle accident earlier this year, has forced him to abandon his comeback plans.

"I am very unhappy that a problem means that Michael cannot return to racing," explained Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo. “In the past few days, I have appreciated his great efforts and the extraordinary motivation which had spread through the team and fans around the world. No doubt his return would have been good for Formula One and I am sure it would have seen him fighting for wins again.

“In the name of Ferrari and all the fans, I wish to thank him for the strong attachment he displayed for the team in these circumstances. In agreement with (team principal) Stefano Domenicali, we have therefore decided to give Luca Badoer the chance to race for the Scuderia after he has put in so many years of hard work as a test driver."

Badoer has tested for the Italian team since 1998 and last raced back in 1999 for Minardi. Although he has started 48 Grands Prix, the 38 year-old is yet to score a world championship point.
