Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I've come over to crunch for you guys for the duration of the Challenge. I don't have anything like the crunching power that some of you have, but I figure every little bit helps. :)

A Hawkeye in our midst? This is an interesting team indeed. Gophers, Hawkeyes and and Illini.....

Who is a former Illini. I am a former Illini, graduated in 1973, but have lived in Minnesota for the past 15 years.

Moi. Class of '92. Though now I"m out in Philly/South Jersey area.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Finally got a hold of a pair of Xeon 5320's ($20.00). I had to install them twice because it would not boot the first time. I must have had something awry the first time. I will keep the 5150's for backup for a while in case something happens. 4 more cores for a pretty cheap price. I will have to see how well it does now compared to before.
BTW does anyone know why BOINC manager would disconnect once in a while? I have to reboot the machine in order to get it to reconnect. Running Linux Mint 11 - the OS stays fully functional, but I can not get BOINC manager to reconnect without the new boot.
Everybody have a good Thanksgiving.
Cheers

Does Mint allow you run multiple processors?

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I hadn't seen Coralville in a long time so it caught me by surprise. I grew up not too far away from Iowa City.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are more people in Big 10 schools/areas, especially since Penn State,Nebraska, Rutgers, and Maryland are or will be part of the Big Ten. This latest bout of expansion does unfortunately add credence to the snide joke made by a former colleague who was one of THOSE Notre Dame fans.: "Big Ten, the conference that can't count/count past 10".

Anyways, Merry Turkey Day to all.

So that's how you spotted me for a Hawkeye! It hadn't occurred to me that anyone would recognize the name Coralville! If you haven't been back here in the last few years, you would hardly believe how Coralville has grown and changed.

Absolutely. I have two 8-core systems running on it.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

It looks like GPU processing is back on so I have just reset everything back to WCC for GPU processing. During that time I donated 2,000,000 Boinc GPU points to GPUGRID and Collatz. It was fun being in frist place again because ryan and deltavee do not have the CPU power I have, but they have more GPU power.

The only good news is it will take them a couple of days to beet me as the number one contributor to the team :)

Top 10 Team Threats
Rank Name Score Average Daily Gain Days to Overtake
5 deltavee 17,586,821 284,206 24,243 2,542.03
3 ryan222h 24,168,083 267,973 8,010 6,872.11

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I can dedicate only one of my crunchers for 100% GPU. Didn't think this would come back so fast so the other cruncher is crunching climate prediction/WCG. Still doing one GPU wu at a time though.
My 3770k and mobo came in today. Dam USPS must have played football with the box. Mobo got busted up. Looks like a couple weeks before getting another.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I am not sure if the Wikipedia article does justice to the whole meaning of the word, but it sure is informative. I can sure see where the pronunciation of the two words is very close.
Cheers

Originally it was neutral word like Thunderbird, Thor or something, but lately become synonym to s*t*n.
So, certainly something that you just cannot use now a days unless hitting thumb with hammer or something.

More local lingual.
If something is lost, you can say that it is in wolf.
I guess this is origin from time when wolf eat scissors if you left them to table.

Same in form of cartoon.
Dude wrotes: Enemies main-assault continues, man-lost has become unbearable
On next screen man-lost (lost=wolf) is yelling more sausage and booze.
