Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Joe, how's the new chips working out?

So far it appears the 5320's are slightly slower than the 5150's but it is a little hard to tell because of the variability of the HCC units. But, the 5320's are quad core vs. the dual core 5150's. So, even if they are a little slower, I am still getting about 1.9 times as many jobs done as before. I may have to reconfigure how I have my systems arranged because I am very close to maxing out a 20 amp circuit. I have 3 servers, 2 p4's and 2 core 2 duo's, a monitor, a KVM switch, an 8 port switch and a range extender all on the same circuit. So far it is working, but I have had some errors(all occurring at the same time) on a couple of the boxes. I will have to put my Kill-O-Watt meter on there to see what the draw is and probably move some of the boxes to another circuit. Other than that I think the new chips are working out well. I am doing between 25,000 and 30,000 WCG points per day with it. It seems to be averaging about 22.8 Boinc points per hour per cpu. The total points vary because of the pending validations, but the point average per cpu should be pretty accurate. This is over a variety of projects. I should have a more accurate picture after about two weeks of running it with the new chips.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Not sure but you might be able to do the BSEL mod.

I did it on a pair of harpertowns awhile back. Not hard to do.

I think I will just let it run stock for a while. I am a bit paranoid that if I try something I will overdo it and burn everything out. crying I am also not sure but after reading the link I am thinking the return is marginal, but the risk is substantial. Besides, I don't think I have the patience. Maybe after I get up the nerve I will try.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Just hit 2,400,701 ppd. It is a new record for me. I have also added another 7970 this evening so maybe it will push me over 3,000,000! I put it on a I7 980 and am running 10 tasks that take 7 or 8 min each. I may wait a couple of days the try 12 tasks to see if it is better or worse. I also just moved up from 38 to 37 overall.

Ryan, what is happening to you, it seems like you are slacking off because I am still beating you even though GPU is back on.

Yeah, I was nervous when I did it too. Getting the tiny square electrical tape on the two pins was a PITA. It was worth it in the end. BSOD the first time as one patch moved and covered two spots. If you decide to try later, no problem giving you a hand. Later. wink

Just got back from vacation and put the app_info's back in place. Should have an increase by tonight.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Sgt Joe and everyone else, might you want to enter the Dec MOT challenges on HCC points and HCC results? I'll bet this GPU-laden team would do mighty well.

If a number of team members want it, I will enter. However, if it is going to be HCC only I am a bit skeptical of the availability of the WU's for the duration, even though I am somewhat partial to the cancer projects for personal reasons. I say this not because the project may end, but because if enough people participate in the challenge it may overload the feeders. I am already seeing this on a couple of my crunchers which are exclusively set to HCC. They are getting mostly HPF2 jobs(and a few others) when there is no HCC available. Yesterday there was 71 years+ devoted to the project. If that would spike much higher I am afraid that instead of getting 90 to 95% HCC now on my exclusive crunchers that would decrease somewhat. However it would be interesting to see what would happen if the daily share topped 100 years.
Cheers
