Re: Minnesota Crunchers

This seems to become as national phenome, this is from biggest newspaper here:

Text says: Cod before / and today.
And then on brackets there is same explanation that I gave couple of mails ago what cod means on monetary slang.

So funny biggrin

Heh.

Well I have turned on all my computers as it is cold enough the A/C (or aircon depending where you are) isn't needed.

Heck, with the crazy natural gas prices, it might be cheaper to heat my home with computers this winter. They are predicting 20-35% increase in price shock

I have a bunch running in the corner of the basement. You can tell it is a little warmer in there smile

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Finally a good frost 28 F (-2.2 C). This will help get the both the corn and beans dried down enough to get them combined. Some of the corn fields were still half green.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hello fellow 8)

What's up?

Winter has arrive here also, temperature is not yet freezing because I live near sea, air temperature is same as sea.
So it will take some time before Baltic Sea froze.

I use to life 60 miles northern and air temperature could change something like 10 degree between morning and evening, but here near coast line, I know Friday temperature on Monday, there is not any different between one week.

Some army stuff...
I told previously that my winter jacket for this year was from Miltech.
I'm ex -soldier myself, it is not something like career choice, we just happen to have common liability to military service, so I did serve my eleven month.

So I can tell that jacket is not targeted for military use, there is tons of details that indicates me that it is mean more for urban wannabee soldiers. Anyhow it seems to be very warm jacket, so it was very excellent purchase 8)

About those details, first one is string loops, used to tie layer above zippers to buttons so wind cannot penetrate from there.
Those kind of loops can be literally quite deadly.
That jacket is mimicking helicopter pilot jacket, but I cannot believe that those kind of loops could be aloud, because you need exit yourself very fastly from cocpit if necessary.

I'm not sure of course because I serve on electronic war department, but I did my basic training (ten week) on infantry doctrine.
So I know that if you are running on forest or holding some pointing objects, those kind of loops will get your way.

And if you need to eject from cockpit, those loops can be deadly.
I cannot remember year, it was before my service time. But nine conscript drown when they APC (Armoured Personal Carrier) sink.

On that time there was (this all is public information) BTR-60 as main
APC for modern infantry brigade were I serve.
Several years after that accident happen, there was reconstruction of that accident.
There was something like several judge from court of appeal and my role was play driver of that BTR-60.

Those fellow was practise crossing lake (there is 60k big lake and 150k if ponds are counted) and several thing went wrong.
So that APC turn to U-boat

Both pilots did get out from cockpit, but none of nine man crew from cargo area did not. First fellow was jammed on hatch from his battlebelt. And there is a lots of loops on that belt.
Pilots do not wear battlebelt, infantries does.

So I cannot believe that there should be any loops to grab something on real military gears.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I think a number of years ago they decided to get away from loops, buckles etc. They use a lot of velcro(hook and loop stuff). The heavy duty stuff really holds when you want it to hold and still let go when you need it to let go. I have a belt with it I have used for work for 25 years and the velcro still works. I have had to clean the lint out of it a couple of times.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Had a hard freeze the other morning so it looks like the growing season is over.
My only crop this year was 2 heirloom tomato plants in a raised planter. Got quite a lot of very delicious tomatoes from it.
Went out bird watching the other day and saw 10's of wooly bear caterpillars. All of them had a small patch of black on each end and most of the middle was brown. What does that mean? According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the longer the middle brown band, the milder and shorter the coming winter; the shorter the brown band, the longer and more severe winter will be. So maybe a short mild winter for us this year. cool

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hello fellows 8)

My workload start to ease little a bit, I still need to work tomorrow but only thing I need to do is translate Ghost image to VMware.
It is time consuming prosess but does not take any brains, so I can do it on coach while zipping vodka.

It is something that I have done thousand and one time, so no worries for tomorrow.

Apropoo, one hint.
I every now and then meet this problem with display setting when translating older HW spesific Ghost images (W2k) to Vmware.
I solve it simply building one working W2k VMware image and copy folder "Video" from there to CD.

Then I boot problem translation and when it ask location of display drivers, I simply point it use those "Video" drivers copied from prebuilded W2k Vmware image.
Seems to work always.....

Ou poi, this vodka is sooo guuud.
