I'm going to switch to another post and I do not know what kind of work area I'll be receiving. But to be honest, I'm very afraid that I end up some "open office"....... I get great consolation about fact that economical depression is finally reaching EU, so maybe I do not need to spend lot time there ![]() huoh........ Accumulated Points: 11,574,443 ![]() |

Him and I used to own a roofing company years ago before my knees went. I miss that job from time to time. Sorry to hear about your knees. You traded one form of labor for another. 900 PC's eh ! That is quite a number. I presume you mean the users are the morons. I would guess they do more damage out of ignorance rather than maliciously. Actually its the managers. I can deal with the end users. Just re-image the PC if it is beyond fixing. I expect it from them. But the managers where I work have NO training on how to manage IT. None, zip, zero, zilch. The worst thing, in my opinion, is to make a developer a manager just because he/she has been there for so many years. ALL our managers in our IT department are former programmers. Programmers/Developer don't make good managers. Not one that I've seen. ![]() |

Could it be the managers are a bit myopic when it comes IT knowledge and do not have the ability to look at the big picture, but only the the smaller piece about how to make their piece run well. This would be the tactics versus strategy dilemma. Tactics being how well you are executing the various tasks, the "proficiency" of what you are doing while strategy is the answer to what are you doing and why are you doing it. Even the most well executed tasks are useless if they are not necessary; if they are not the correct tasks to be done. In other words if the strategy is wrong, doing the tasks to accomplish that strategy will not achieve the desired goal. I wish you luck in trying to resolve this. Sounds similar to what thay say about coaching: Your star players don't make the best coaches. ![]() Cheers

Here is one small example of our management...
Only managers get bonuses in our company and they are based on their "manager goals". The goal is to reduce hardware server count. Hard to do in this growing pathetic M$ environment. So what do they do??? "Let's download the free version of VMware server, make a few windows 2003 VMs and get rid of hardware." ![]() Now we run a free version of VMware server running on a windows 2k3 box running 3 or 4 windows 2k3 server VMs. <sigh> The servers is constantly crashing and takes all the VMs with it. Instead of spending the money on VMware ESX and running it on a big server packed with RAM, they cheap out and load a free version where you can't share resources like RAM which ESX does. When the server crashes, we get blamed and they tell us we don't know what we are doing! This is one small example of our management. The only reason I stay there is because it is less than 2 miles from my house. Also working there is easy if you don't care about getting fired, which I don't = no stress. I can always start my own construction company again if I need to. Note: Several MC members work here and feel the same way as I do. If anyone has any good Netware, Citrix or Security/Firewall jobs available in the TC area, please post them here. ![]() <just a little bitter> |

my turn, my turn, my turn......
----------------------------------------Last night temperature drop below water freezing point. It usually does not bother me, there is eternal summer on my home and office. I got private office, so it is full of heat. light and classic fm. There is always summer on my office. I'm afraid that I need to change it to "open space" which literally means cold and dim. Instead of +25'C (+77'F) there will be +18'C (+64'F), and instead of having 5000 lux, I need to learn to live max. 500 lux environment. Instead of strings, I can hear "interesting" stories about Mary's new boyfriend, who happen to be best possible dancer (on horizontal mambo).. This winter could become some test to my moral...... If anyone has any good Netware, Citrix or Security/Firewall jobs available in the TC area, please post them here. ![]() <just a little bitter> That sounds like they were being pennywise and pound foolish. Reminds me of an old story which I attribute to one of the local jurists, now deceased. He would tell the story of old time druggist/pharmacist who owned his own store. He had scrimped and saved for a long time to be able to afford his own place. One of the ways he saved money was to take the old prescription bottles in and scrape the labels off of them so they could be reused. By closely watching every penny he built a successful business over a long period of time. But all good things need to come to and end he eventually he had to retire. So he sold the store and pharmacy business to a young up and coming pharmacist. Now the young pharmacist did not have time to be scraping bottles to save pennies, but he did have some marketing sense and invested in some advertising and modernizing the business. In the first year he made more money than the old pharmacist did in two years. The moral of that story is to pay attention to the important parts of the enterprise and not overdo the attention to minutia. It also could be that the organization is a living embodiment of the Peter Principle (book : "The Peter Principle by Laurence J. Peter). The jist of that is competent people do a good job and get promoted until the point where they are no longer competent and therefore no longer get promoted, hence we have the situation where management positions are filled by the incompetent. The corollary is that the way to cure this would be to demote everyone one position lower than their maximum promotion potential. Ergo, the most competent person would be filling each position. I wish you luck with all of this. ![]() Cheers

That was a pretty cool piece of music. Of course, I had to look at other selections of this piece so check this one out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WD3DncRK3c&feature=related Cheers Hmm...... Well, it was originally composed to piano. Actually part A is quite possible to play with almost every note from both lines, but definitely part B need to play just one note with octave. Same with part C, simply too fast notes, so need to concentrate just f-line. Those fellows are just playing part C quite much same speed as part A, so it gives too "difficult" impression from begin and end. They should not. On that my link, Eduardo seems to skip hold C-part. (Sorry about my English, I do not know English music terms). About guitars. Spanish stuff die in our climate. Wood is so different that wintertime house indoor climate will literally split them to pieces. Optimum would be 40% air moisture, but it drops easily to something like 10% on winter time here. One choice is use air humidifier, and there is also humidors that you can add inside guitar box. So it becomes like those cigar boxes 8) I have actually test this once, by borrowing one of my guitar to my big brothers wife. She did not close it to box after use, rather leave it lean against wall for a several months. There was tree full length crak on bottom desk... Well, I did park my car to her flower bed. The one with broken oil pan. Accumulated Points: 11,731,156 ![]() |
