Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I will have to put my Kill-o-watt meter on them the next time I do a shut down just see what the difference in electric use might be.
Cheers

Might not want to do that. Once you see how much those chips suck up the juice, you might want to unplug it. wink

Well, I know I have 5 servers on a 15 amp circuit now and together they draw 12.5 amps. I am thinking about unloading the 2 slowest servers, just to cut down how much juice I'm using. In their defense, they are rock solid stable. I will probably bite the bullet when the weather warms up. They have kept the small barn they are in about 15 degrees warmer than the outside temperature.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I've also been focusing on power efficiency in my systems recently since the warm up is coming. Wanted to squeeze every bit of efficiency out of the AMD system, my main rig.

Here's what I did to it:

1. Upgraded the PSU to a 80+ Platinum certified one (must be 92% + efficient)
2. Changed the CPU's from Opteron 6180's to Opteron 6366 HE's
3. Removed video card running on integrated

I kept 4 RAM modules per socket so as to utilize quad channel architecture. Hoping the performance increase is more than the slightly more power used.

Total power draw at the wall on UPS is 226 watts for 32 cores! I know they are slow cores but they do well. I took a total ppd hit by changing CPU's but the system uses 175 watts less at the wall.

Supposed to be in the 50's and 60's all week :)

You are far more efficient than I am.

What is sleep? sad Had to get up early in order to have my coffee before my cat scan. Nothing to eat or drink 4 hours prior. Sucks getting old. BTW, there time stamp is an hour off. It was after 5 when I got up.

You're right on both counts. I am doing my best to keep the effects of aging at bay, but despite my best efforts it seems to be gaining. I have attempted to take good care of my teeth, but somehow half of a molar cracked off last week, so now a crown is in order. And not cheap either.
I had not noticed the time stamp discrepancy. Daylight savings time must not be accounted for in that.
Hope the scan went well.
Cheers

Made it to 5 years on Ebola. My current goal is to get 10 years on each project presently running, then focus efforts on cancer and aids projects.
