Thank you all for the responses. :)
I hope to crunch many tiny work units and contribute as significantly as possible.
Rametarin: All your crunching is significant. Crunch on! cowboy

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

Got Ruby yesterday... now who thinks I can make it to Emerald with 10 cores crunching before work runs out??? Probably won't, but I'm going to try.

Well, I certainly think it'll be extremely tight, certainly not impossible though. I estimate that you'd need another 18 days of WU's (635 WU's) - so, once you've got your caches full, you'd probably need to slowly empty a few so as to get one or more of your machines back in the 'reliable class' again - so as to pick up any 'retreads' that may be available.

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

Sapphire after this morning update. I moved everything I had to other projects except for my loan 400Mhz system that can't really do anything else. I am not sure what it will be doing after this project ends.

If it no longer meets the minimum requirements for the WCG projects, there are plenty of other BOINC projects with some pretty low system requirements. Or, I suppose you could retire it and replace it with something more efficient for the power used.

I think badges reflecting computing time is a more appropriate way to show appreciation to volunteers; for those who are all about the hardcore crunching and results, you can compare your cobblestones/points. The badges acknowledge those who can't afford beastly dedicated crunching machines; even though they may not contribute as much in terms of raw data, they should still be acknowledged for their time and kWh donations. After all, that's part of the reason grid computing exists and is such a viable platform--decentralizing the computing to reduce the overhead needed by the organization doing the research. While people with huge crunching farms help the cause, that's not necessarily the central idea--the idea is that everyone can help out.

The last report I received at mid day showed 3.8 days left of work. Now this is not exact as I said with the distribution of work units for this project, this could actually be more. And then even after the last of the new work starts, we'll still see a very good supply of work units for probably 7-10 days after that. Only when the last new work starts, members may start seeing "no new work available" from time to time. With it happening more towards the end of the 21 day estimate of how long I think the work will take for results to complete. Again, in this statement I say estimate, so it could be higher or lower, only the dynamics of the grid knows :)
It will be a close race. 18 days is less than 21. Good luck. good luck May your queues be full.
